The Big Picture has produced ‘Playing the Game’, an advice guide for video game developers, on behalf of NESTA (the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts).

The book is based on a mentoring programme run by NESTA. Over the course of a year, industry luminaries were paired with emerging developers. The developers benefited from the experience of business leaders, invaluable during a tumultuous economic climate. Their advice, and the results, are now shared in this publication – as practical tips on overcoming common development challenges, plus diverse opinions of the future of the videogames sector.

To give the publication a tactile sense of ‘art meets technology’, The Big Picture explored paper stocks and print finishing. Metallic inks, embossing, varnishing and foiling are employed throughout; and the cover – printed on Stradream, with curved edges – evokes the look and feel of a games console.
